Background
We are currently building a new technical AI safety non-profit organisation focused on interpretability, evals and auditing. In particular, we want to develop and work on a roadmap to detecting deception in real-world models and transition more and more into auditing over time. A more detailed write-up can be found here.
The organisation will be located in London with Marius as director (with the help of other experience researchers and multiple research advisors). The early team consists of up to a handful of researchers with practical alignment research experience in interpretability and evals (e.g. selected SERI MATS scholars, PhDs in relevant fields, >1 year of independent research, research director in an ML start-up, previous direct work in AI safety).
Team Status and Style
We are currently in the process of building the organisation and many things like the exact amount of funding or the exact number of early employees are not fully determined. As in every early start-up, things can move very quickly. As the Head of Operations, a part of your job would be to navigate this uncertain environment with Marius.
All of us have relevant research experience in core parts of the agenda (e.g. PhDs, independent research or direct work). Furthermore, we have experienced research advisors who can help us with high-level research prioritization. In the beginning, we intend to do low-uncertainty projects like red-teaming, benchmarking and building challenges and then transition to more high-uncertainty & high-upside projects over time.
